On April 21, 2025, the Board of Election Commissioners for the City of St. Louis (“Election Board”) received notice of the City’s desire to conduct a Special Election on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, to fill the Aldermanic seat vacated by Cara Spencer upon her swearing in as Mayor. The notice provides that the date of the special election will be Tuesday, July 1, 2025 and that candidate filing for party candidates and nonpartisan candidates shall close on Friday, May 30, 2025.

Candidates running as non-partisan candidates can do so by submitting a nominating petition containing the signatures of at least 10% of the registered voters in Ward 8 who voted in the April 8, 2025, mayoral election (i.e., 369 signatures). The deadline for filing to run is May 30, 2025. Filing will occur during business hours at the Election Board located at 300 N. Tucker Blvd., 63101.

Absentee voting for the July 1, Special Election will begin on Tuesday, June 3.
